Was he living in your house?
Question Author
hi ethel yes he was, and he has already tried to claim a beneficial interest through the land registry which was rejected.
Not a hope. Tell him to bring it on
Question Author
thanks ethel, my only concern was if he applied to the courts i on't want to start racking up another solicitors bill in defending myself
It will be small claims procedure - you can defend yourself
Question Author
thanks ethel - brilliant!! :)
pmsl - my best friend's ex tried this and served proceedings for 4,900 (just under the small claims track limit), so I promptly served a counterclaim for 17k. Funny how he cleared off after that.

In any event, I can't see that your ex has any claim on you. Other than perhaps a claim for promissory estoppel (ie he acted with detriment to himself on receipt of a promise from you). Bl00dy hard to prove. Personally I would do what Ethel says and tell him "go on big boy, make my day".
