Cheque in wrong name

My wife was sent a cheque from a charity after our son couldn't go on holiday with the scouts because of illness. Unfortunately it was written in her name but she doesn't have a bank account. Can I simply change the name on the cheque or do I have to ask for a replacement?

you cannot alter the cheque!

either
1) get it re-done in your name
2) get your wife to open a bank account
3) go to one of those cheque cashing companies
