I have recently split up with my girlfriend, and she has some of my property at her house. I have called her twice to try and arrange a time to collect it, the first time she said she'd let me know, the second she said she would have it sent back to me. After the second phone call, she called the police and said I had harrassed her. The police took no further action, as there was no evidence, although advised me not to contact her. I am still waiting for my property to arrive, which she has said she WILL send back. How could I go about getting it back? Should I get a solicitor to send a letter, and if so any ideas of the cost? (sorry for the long winded question)
Send her a letter, stating that if she has not returned the items by a certain date then you will be instructing a solicitor to take the matter further
Could you arrange with a mutual friend for them to get it and pass it on?
I'd probably charge around 50-75 plus VAT for a letter as I'd have to open a file, do all the ID'ing and compliance, send all the required letters etc...
I advise people to try their own, with legal backing (Citizen's Advice Bureau could advise) and sent by recorded delivery first.
