Right to access - rented property

Our neighbour and us live in adjoined victorian semi detached properties. When our landlord put a fence up in the garden both old front doors are on our side of the fence (these are no longer used as the access is now at the side of the houses, but the doors remain). We use our door to go out in to the garden. Our neighbour has recently opened up his, which was previously sealed from the inside, to move items in and out, thus causing him to walk through our garden and through the adjoining gate It is a long story but we are not happy with him doing this as he has chosen to be the neighbour from hell.

How are we fixed to remove the gate between the gardens, thus not allowing him to use the door as access via our garden?

Are both properties owned by the same landlord?

If so then you will probably need to speak to him about right of way and if the other tenant is allowed to open up the door.
