To cut a very long story as short as possible my ex and I split up approximately 2 years ago and I moved out of our home. The mortgage is in joint names and I have been paying half of the mortgage on top of my own living costs up until last month. The house has been on the market for about 18 months. I offered to buy my ex out some time ago, with my new partner, and he refused our (more than reasonable) offer. About 3 months ago we negotiated an agreement for him to buy me out and I am still waiting. Is it reasonable for me to be still paying towards a house that I no longer live in? I am fullly aware that as a joint name on the mortgage I am liable if he defaults on payments. Will obviously be seeking legal advice but wondered if anyone out there has been in the same situation. Thanks.

There is no hard and fast rule. What is the nature of the agreement? Is it an informal one or court order? If it is a court order what are the exact terms?

Thanks for replying STIDW. No we have no formal agreement or court order in place. Have been trying to sort things out amicably but obviously the goodwill is running a little thin on both sides now.
