Back garden gate blocked

We've been in our house 7.5 years. Its a terrace and our back garden has a gate to the end terrace house next door. This we have always used to take our bins to and from the front of the house. When we bought the house the seller included this access on the info sheet provided by the estate agent.
Due to a dispute with our neighbour over another matter he has blocked this access. Since moving in we have replaced the gate at considerable cost and now we cant use it. We had to carry all 3 bins through the house and now they are stuck at the front.
Any comments or advice would be welcome as to whether he can do this.

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Down load your and your neighbours deeds from the lr site (about £6 each) and check if there is a private right of way. If there is then write him a letter stating that he is not allowed to block it and that your prow access is for xxx at xxx time of day.
Although you only use it for the bins it may be that you have access pretty much unrestriced but that obviously depends on the wording.
Do other neighbours have row access over your land to his?
If there is no row on the deeds then you may be able to get one added if the row has been exercised for, I think, 12 years. Again depending on permission etc.
If you find you do have unrestricted row then (being rather vindictive at times) I would use it at any and every oppertunity just to proove a point then go back to only when you need to.
