Can i claim housing benefit for a house owned by my father
i recieve housing benefit for a house which i rent from a private landlord.
he has told me that the mortgage payments for the house i am renting from him have gone up
I spoke to the council and they told me i have to cover the shortfall myself as i allready recieve the maximum ammount of benefit.
There is no way i can cover the shortfall so my father has aggreed to buy a house and let it to me (buy to let)
Will i still be able to claim housing benefit?

yes it will be ok, cos my dad and i did the same thing, as long as it is done properly with tenacy agreement and rent book and all that, and of course you have to be seen to be paying the shortfall.

so its not really about the rent is it? you are just jealous that i have an inheritance coming my way?
that my folks thought ahead and planned for their kids futures...tried to help us...and your didnt...
ahh now we get to the bottom it...
i wondered why you couldnt answer me straight and why you were ignoring all the facts

yes boo, i know i am incredibly lucky to have that...but the reality is that if i didnt pay rent...then i couldnt live here... they simply cannot afford to let a house go rent free...
they already accept a massively low amount and could double it if someone else lived here...but they dont want to ...they want to help me and also get a few quid to help their retirement
i realise my situation isnt the norm...but i am extremely grateful to my dad for thinking ahead...he was brought up in squalor during the war and his biggest fear has been lack of security for us.
this post was about being related to your landlord, but seems to have turned into an abuse joko one... but i make no apologies.. i am doing nothing wrong...

lol, boo... no i meant the other poster...
im not sure how you have paid towards it though exactly... he owns it outright...and if i wasnt living here, someone else would be...so i say again...whats the difference...?
i pay tax, so does he...and his pension has come from 65 years of working...so hes entitled to his rent...
OOT...so what? you would be doing the same regardless where i lived...why does it matter who the landlord it
you really need to establish that fact...that it woul;d be paid regardless of my sitaution...

joko
I have a house (mine, but still in my dads name legally) that is large enough to be converted into 2 flats...the house needs repairs doing but its not feasible while i am still living in it.
yes me too OTT...but in my case, my dads business is being a landlord...he owns numerous properties, bought with the intention of receiving rent - from whoever can pay it
this is not temporarily putting me up for a few months...this is my home and has been fpr 15 years...
and the fact that my dad is 81 (not 90ish) means he cant afford to just give a house away unfortunately
i would also add, that my dad would allow me to live rent free...he hates taking it from me when i am working an it is coming from my own pocket..
joko the last bit says it all .
( he hates taking it from me when i am working an it is coming from my own pocket..)

joko, i cant see what all the fuss is about, regardless of where you live and who owns the property, your dad will still get rent from someone(paid for by themselves or housing benefit) you will still pay rent to someone (paid by yourself or benefit) and you will still inherit the house, whats the problem? i know if i had proerty and a daughter who needed somewhere to live, id be more than happy for her to haave the house than someone else. maybe im missing something, if so can someone please explain it to me in plain english
thank you gina...the voice of reason!
i have stated exactly that numerous times...but of course people don't read...or at leats they cant comprehend simple logic....their knees just start twitchinh and they just jump on the bandwagon
i think some have no idea what they are even supporting and make ludicrous and pointless statements haha.
