I was stood outside a pub today smoking a ciggie when the landlord came out and said" If your smoking, you need to be at least 4ft away from the pub or it's illegal?"

i dont know if its the law but i know alot of pubs that have that rule

I wasn't breaking the law I was drinking in the pub across the road and just talking to friends.

Not sure of the actual law, I suspect it may vary from location to location depending on the whims of the licensing authority, but certainly my landlord says it's part of his licensing requirements that smoking isn't permitted within 4ft of the doorway.
