In legal terms what species of property is a gym membership? Is it transferable?

Sorry i am not a law person,, but logic tells me that a gym membership is a contract between the gym and you, and therefore the terms and conditions the gym sets down should prevail (ie if they say "not transferrable" then it's not transferable)
We'd call it a 'right' not property. And in this case the right is transferable or not according to the terms of the contract which created it.

Now, given that, someone might ask about 'intellectual property'. Isn't that 'property' ? No, not strictly, but 'property' is a convenient word to use for it as something readily marketable, something which you could trade and value.It's really a right. I don't think gym membership is 'intellectual' anway !

Thanks. A friend said he thought it was a 'chose in rem' which one could sell, but I thought it was more of a 'chose in action'. I think some gyms do have contracts which they let you transfer. Will have to find what the terms and conditions of mine are.
