What help can I get?

Hi everyone,

Basically, I was a full time student and working a part time job but in the last few months I became injured and cannot continue with both uni and job and need to take a year out to recover. My student loans will end and I will not have an income

The injury I have now means I need crutches to get around and require some help as I will be registered disabled.

What help can I receive in terms of both financial and generel help and also with housing as I will need to move soon?

it's not as simple as all that i'm afraid. Hae you ever worked before you became a student? Benefits you can get will depend entirely on what kind of contributions you've made previously.
getting disability living allowance means that you have to have had the problems for at least six months before you can apply, and you have to be fairly unable to do much to qualify for it (for example unable to cook a meal, unable, or virtually unable to walk, unable to wash or dress yourself)
if you can carry on either studying or working, that will probably be your best bet. The uni will have an access officer, and they willbe able to make things as easy as possible for you to attend. If you are still at uni now, there is also [robably a welfare officer who can advise you.
