yellow zig zag outside school

can you park on the pavement if there are yellow zig zags out side a school ? I know you cannot park on the road but can you park on the hardstanding ?

am i reading this wrong?? you want to park on the pavement outside a school, where there are markings on the road telling you not to park??

do you wait for the kids to move out of the way first?

No...parking on a pavement causes an obstruction.

Road markings apply to both sides of them

So if there is a double yellow line or zig zags you can't park on either side of the markings.

Do you mean that there is a lay-by type drop off area outside the school, but on the road side of that there are yellow zigzags? I think you will find that the local By-law may allow loading and drop off outside of the school admission and closing times in that area only

There is a very large pavement plus hardstanding outside our house which is along from the school,we have always parked there and now trafice wardens saying we cant but they have been round before and never said any thing,and in answer to mccfluff it is not directly out side the school !

Is the hardstanding a designated parking area? Do you have to cross the pavement to get to the hardstanding? and is there a dropped curb to get to the hardstanding?

no none of those,i think its a case of find somewhere else to park !!

I can picture this as it is the same outside my daughter's school only double yellow lines next to a wide path. The parents who are too lazy to park on a nearby side street and walk around the corner to collect their children just park on the path. Cos it must be ok if you are not actually on the lines! Doesnt matter about the safety of the children or the fact that every other person has a pushchair which struggles to fit past as long as they dont have to walk far. Drives me mad and I love it on the days that the police are there to give them tickets!

From the way the school run people carry on around here yellow lines and other parking byelaws only apply to other people, so you should be ok, by the way how do you actually manage to get a traffic warden? I've not seen one round here for years
