Hi all, I really need some advice 2 years ago I stupidly opend 3 catalouges in family's names, at the time my husband was violant toward me and then was posted to Afghanistan and I was on my own with a 3 month old and a 2 year old. I was so depressed and was also suffering from a compulsive disorder. I am not a Nast person I would give any one the shirt off my back. I don't even know what possessed me to do it, I didn't do it out of mall ace or with at intent to anyone I really don't know why I did it. I have never ever been in trouble with the police and my husband is an officer in the British army, well last week my mother checked her credit file and I was found out which led to her phoning the police. They had a appointment at there house tonight with the police, my mobile started ringing and it was my mum so I answered it and it was the police man, I live in Surrey now but it happened in Essex so he asked if I could come to Essex for an voluntary interview and said did I want a solicitor to which I asked well I don't know I have never been in trouble befor he then said that if I had a solicitor it would take hours and hours and I would be kept in a police cell and if I just came in I would just be caution and I would get it sorted. He said if I told the truth all would be ok if I lied I would go to prison. I am very confused as to why he wouldn't want me to have a solicitor I am glad I am getting punished for what I have done my family don't deserve the hurt and pain that I have caused and I love them more then anything I'm just confused as I was expecting to get arrested and have a solicitor? Any help would be greatly appreciated as my husband and I split two weeks ago due to his infedelity and I am on my own in Surrey with 2 very small children thank you please don't judge me I'm really not a nasty person I was I'll xx

when you make an appointment to see the police tell them that you want a solicitor present, they can then arrange for the duty solicitor to be there.

He literally said if u have a solicitor it will drag on for hours, if u don't as you are admitting it it won't take very long and I dont have to be in a police cell or arrested, I am very confused as I thought u shouldn't do an interview with out a solicitor, obviously the police man was very nice on the phone so I do t know what to think :s as I said I have never ever spoken to a policeman before and I am willing to take my punishment as I did wrong.

you NEED a solicitor to be present during the interview.
Question Author
Thank you, I just didnt know what to do
Will your mum withdraw charges on your promise to repay her, then you dont need to deal with the police.
Question Author
No :( they need to get it off there credit file so that's why the police got involved, my mum is very school of tough love I tired to explain to her that I was I'll etc but she wants me punished Nd I fully agree I just don't want to go to prison and miss my kids growing up I'm so scared then when I spoke to the police and he was like u will prob end up with a caution and the whole not wanting me to have a solicitor I was very confused as I have no idea how this all works
despite the fact that you want to be punished, you have the right to legal representation.
Duty solicitors have lots of cases, a private one would accompany you at an interview. You could be advised to plead guilty for speed but you would then have a criminal record. You wont go to prison but only to court. Try your mum again as a CR could reduce your work prospects.
Question Author
I unfortunately can not afford a private one :( I'm very confused its just the way he said if u lie to me at all you will also be chareged with perverting the course of justice and a few other 1s I can't remember off had as.was very nervous on the phone I just found it strange that they said that on the phone and not in the interview, I don't know if this is all a dare tatic (it has worked will not make this mistake again) or I will actually be cautioned as I will most defiantly need a solicitor etc but he almost advised me not to have one :s
Question Author
Scare not dare sorry
I don't think it was a policeman at all.
I never thought of that!
Does sound suspicious.
Question Author
I think it was he was like I will call you it will come up as not known number but I will declare who I am at the start of the call and I need you to come to Essex and I will be I investigating this further to see if there are any more accounts for people etc I don't know if he was trying to help me or if I will end up going to prison because I didn't take the right representitive steps
sounds like the caller was Mr Plod the policeman from windup nick.
