Last week I visited an old pal not seen for about a year. On his wall there was a calendar with photos of very young girls with their genitals exposed and suggestive captions below.

Is it a criminal offence to possess such material or is it only if on a computer?

Yes, it's an offence.

You can always ring Crimestoppers anonymously.....
Segilla please don't take offence but at 80 I think it's perfectly understandable you don't want to report your friend. You have to be a pretty tough cookie to enter into something like going to the police.

ditto,
It's not nonsense at all. have any of you got elderly relatives, would you want them getting involved ? The best thing probably, as suggested by others, is to make an anonymous call - if you are pretty sure about what you saw.
Indeed. If you are in no doubt about what you saw, then it's your duty to report it.
Well, I agree with Prudie. It must be difficult to report a friend in those circumstances. It`s all well and good to say on here that you would when you are not in that situation but ann and scrivens, if you went to your brother`s/father`s/ BIL`s house and saw a calendar like that, would you really run straight off to the local cop-shop?
Really anne? And you're usually so sympathetic to others woes and problems....

Anne I'm just surprised you'd think it nonsense that an 80 year old would be reluctant (or nervous) to go to the police to report a friend of 50 years.
It has to be reported, they're children. Do it anonymously if you have to.
I am not an expert on sexual perversions, but i cannot see a paedophile or a sexual pervert openly displaying pornographic pictures on a calendar for all to see, that is not how sexual perverts operate.

Either Segilla or his mate have a psychiatric disorder to explain this odd phenomenon.

If it was me, I would tell him that he is on very dodgy ground by displaying such a calendar and that he should remove it or he could be for the high jump.
prudie, I think segilla is in a very difficult position, but as he has asked for advice, id say phone crimestoppers. but I see sqad's point why display this 'type ' of material ?

Somebody made this calendar and kids were abused in the process. It needs to be reported to the police so that they can try and find out who made it and stop them.
