I have been accused of theft at work. The only evidence they have are circumstantial evidence i.e I was the only person on shift at time of alleged incident. I work in a pharmacy and I am being accused of not banking prescription v=charges etc. . I have accepted that I will be sacked but I want to know if I can be charged with this

Have your employers reported the alleged theft to the police ?

What is the value of the theft ?
Although the only person on shift was it your responsibility to bank at the end of the shift? Any cctv? Did you forget to bank it, is there anyone on site who could have had access?

there is no cctv yes I cashed up what was there at end of the day. They are considering if they can pass it to the police and im currently waiting to hear. Im really scared
If you did not steal the money why have to accepted that you will be sacked?

I have maintained my innocence throughout this it has nit gone to aigation meeting as I resigned due to stress . they accepted my resignation and im waiting to hear if they will pass it to the police
Unfortunately resigning will make it look as though you are guilty.
You should have stuck it out.

what did they say ?

You were involved in a disciplinary at work which ended when you resigned from stress. Your employer investigated you with a view to ending your contract as a result of dishonesty

did you resign thro stress
or did they fire you for dishonesty
or are you still at work ?

anyway IF the papers are passed to the police over which you probably have no control - but if they ask you if they can, say no as you dont give consent and the papers have not be sworn or subject to cross exam - then you wil have to wait and see on
1) the papers say
2) what the chances are of getting a guilty verdict are on beyond reasonable doubt - which is MUCH higher than civil for firing

and I think I would decline to answer further questions on the grounds that it may incriminate you ( English rule please DONT mention the 5th as it is american )

get another job and make sure you keep your fingers out of the till
If you are professionally registered then you have to think about being reported to your regulator...
but first the criminal case if any ....

are we really the first you have asked about this ?
If you were accused of not banking the money, did you, and if so the bank will have a record of receipt. If you did not bank it, what happened to it.
