... apparently. That should open the floodgates to legal vandalism over the whole UK then. Should've realised when authorities started allowing graffiti to stay where that was heading. Seems to me that only someone who feels that only their view must dominate over the rest of the community could believe and accept they had a right to do whatever they want. Perhaps it's a good thing that I'm closer to exiting this rush to chaos than entering it.

Criminal damage is only an "either-way" offence (meaning the defendant can opt for a trial by judge and jury) if the value of the damage exceeds £5,000. This, apparently did not. (I've seen values quoted as around £3-4,000). As such it should have been a "summary" offence triable only in the Magistrates' Court.
That aside, yes it seems the lunatics have now taken to running the asylum and anybody who has an issue with an item that seemingly upsets them can simply destroy it without fear of conviction.
