hi, my friend received a 6 year sentence that was reduced to 3 years for stabbing someone. When is the earliest he could apply for parole/ early release/ one of these curfew etc schemes. I don't understand the reduced sentence part - does he have to serve the full 3 years or can he apply earlier and if so when. any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

He wants to be grovellingly grateful that the original sentence was halved. With good behaviour, he'll probably be out in 2 year's or less.
Out of three years he will serve 18 months. the hdc {home detention curfew} does not apply to violent offenders. and same for the early release it doesnt apply to violent offenders. But he is damn lucky he got half knocked off.
