can i retract a witness statement

does any1 now wot is classed as a valid reason to retract a witness statement. i can not remember the nites events and my statment doesnt match with the other witnesses i have been tryin to retract this statement for months and am just being fobbed of by the police. i now know that my statement is a drunk version of wot i thought i saw which i now realise that i cud be wrong

i was very drunk on the nite ov the events but was sober when i made my statement?

Did you tell them how drunk you were?

I don't know the answer but surely you can make another statement stating how drunk you were and your memory might not be reliable.

ive tryed all this but the officer will not take a retract statement of me, the guy who i thought at the time commited the crime is well known an the officer told me they want him in jail but can never get anything to stick. i think this is y he wont let me retract the statement. this is y im trying to find a legal reason for me to retract it?

You could try writing to the CPS (or PF if you're in Scotland) and advise them of your concerns. The Police won't be interested as they'll already have submitted the file (presumably) and they'll now be taking the view that you either lied at the time or are trying to now .... just don't do it when it comes to court!

Carliem - you may just have solved your own problem ... got to your doctor and he will certify you have an alcohol / memory problem.

Given that you also posted this last night and can't remember I'd seriously consider laying off whatever it is your taking.

jaust tell the cops u arent going becyase u cannot remember,,,simple as that !! if i were a cop i certainly wouldnt want u giving evidence and making a whole bolls up....dont worry about it,,,just tell them u were paraletic that nite-end of story
