Growing cannabis

My mate has been caught growing cannabis in his bedroom, hes been to county court and now must go to crown court,

He had about 40 plants and they said it was a years supply,

is he looking at a custodial sentance?

or what are his options?

any help appreciated as this guy is a decent bloke whos had a lot of problems in his life

Hmmmm....it depends on whether they are charging him as a supplier or growing it for his own use. If growing for own use then most likely a fine and a suspended sentence if as supplier then it could be custodial sentence.
