I am currently signed off work by my gp with stress. This is due to the managing director of the company for whom I work, continuosly harrasing me and in general, making my working environment a really unpleasant place to be.

I am due to return to work in 7 days time although due to the way I feel, I have no wish to do so. My doctor is willing to give me more time if needed, so I need to know is it possible to complete your period of notice while signed unfit for work, or will I have to return to work, submit my resignation and serve my notice?

Yes you can hand in your notice whilst off sick, and count any period of sickness as part of that notice period. However you will then be given a form to pass on to your new employer showing that you received statutory sick pay in the 8 weeks prior to your departure.
