Charged for a copy of blood test results

My partner rang for blood test results and requested a copy of them and was told there was a charge of £2.50 per blood test result. He'd had 7! Any feedback gratefully received.

Why would he want a copy of them? Surely, these tests are for the doctors to look at?

GPs are allowed to charge for photocopies of records.

Imagine if everyone started to request a copy of blood test results, imagine then the cost to the NHS - quite rightly he was charged.

I think getting a copy of results is a pretty good idea actually. If the OP's partner decides to have a second opinion or go to a private Dr, then he can show them what he has already had done to save time. There are a whole host of other reasons, none of which we need to know

Charging for copies is quite acceptable - someone has to do it, GP surgeries have to cover additional costs for patient requests for copies of reports etc.

Why he wanted copies is irrelevant! I'm with the same practice and recently needed a hard copy for a consultant I was seeing in London before I moved to The Midlands. I wasn't charged and I didn't have to explain myself either.

Wasn't records - was a small list of figures!

If he decided to change his doctor or ask for a second opinion all his records are on line in the computer. No problem - he doesn't need hard copies and would have been given the results face to face.

I suppose everyone's right; but all the same, it's his blood and I think he's entitled to a print-out. Doctors do like to keep things to themselves

wookette....the results of the blood tests would be on one piece of paper i would presume and charging for each blood test is outrageous.

A fee for the one copy of the results would seem appropriate.
