No TV Licence
If you no longer wish to watch television and you are only going to use your TV screen for games and DVDs, how should you go about this, how do you let the television licencing people know? Is there something you can disable on your Tv so that they believe you? Thank you

another thing to remember is if you ever have them in your house and they want to check your computer they need a section 49 order which up to now they have never been granted

Don`t worry about it notafish. VHG`s link is useful. I have a friend who only used his TV for DVDs after he had kids. He was very resolute in the fact that he wasn`t going to pay for a licence. There is absolutely nothing the licencing people could do. He wouldn`t phone them because it was an 0870 number and he didn`t see why he should pay a premium rate to tell them he didn`t use his TV. He wouldn`t even pay for a stamp to tell them. There is nothing they can do. Just declare that you only use your TV to watch DVDs and there shouldn`t be a problem.
notice at the bottom of the email they say i will get a visit to confirm this what they mean is we want to search your property

What fuss? We just completed this.. https://tvlicensing.m...sing/emailforms/noSet They're welcome to come round, we have no aerial and no way to watch telly even if we wanted to. We've not heard a peep out of them.
"I'm really getting the feeling that they're a bunch of bullies. Seems ridiculous all the fuss you have to go through just because you don't want to watch TV."
Precisely. They assume every non-licence holder is an evader, and will send you regular, ever more threatening letters designed to intimidate you into buying a licence.
Their 'inspectors' are merely salesmen employed by Capita plc, and they're on a sliding scale commission - max of £20 for a direct debit sign-up.
Despite the quasi-legalese in the letters, they have only the same powers as a double glazing salesman. If you get a visit, don't confirm your name, and ask them to leave forthwith.
