i understand with long complicated words...but i think they should have a duty to check...it only takes a quick look in the dictionary...if only for their own conscience and pride
but some are short common words, and some are not spelling errors really but carelessness...such as opinionons...or something...i just dont get how the tattooist could not see hed already done the ON...
you should be able to go into a tattoo parlour and say you want something simple such as 'dreams can come true' and expect them to know how to spell it...
i know i would double check everything regardless of if i thought i knew how to spell it...theres too many definatelys and other common mistakes

Hc4361 has mentioned the key word: 'Negligence'.
A tattooist has a duty of care to follow the instructions that he/she has been given carefully and with the level of skill that the customer should reasonably expect of them. (The terms 'duty of care' and 'reasonable' feature widely in court judgements). If he/she fails to observe that duty of care, a court is likely to rule that they've been negligent, rendering them liable to pay damages.

What all tattooist do is make the client write out what they want and then they will tattoo on exactly what is written down. So if the client makes a mistake in what they write down to start with that mistake will be transferred onto the tattoo. Doing it this way means there is no come back on the tattooist for any mistakes because they've tattooed exactly what they were instructed to.
yes chuck i agree they should do that...and say a disclaimer to the person before they agree...but still i'd say both parties should check
id be embarrassed if i spelt something wrong on a permanent image...and everyone they showed it to would blame me too - and steer clear...and im sure the person would tell everyone the artist messed up...not wanting to admit it was their own mistake...

My tattooist, double and triple checks the spelling with you, and also makes you check the transfer thingy they do before they start tattooing. If every tattooist did that with their clients I'd say it was your own fault that it's spelt wrong.
Also, on a side note, or maybe related, I dunno...ever wondered when people spell normal names weirdly for their children it's because the don't know how to spell it?

Joko, from whenever I've been tattooed or seen someone get tattooed, there tends to be a disclaimer of that it's up to you to make sure that the spelling is right (particularly when in another language).
Although I would imagine if teh tattooist found a spelling mistake they would probably point it out.
