The tag provider will bring breach proceedings. Once proved, the person stands liable to be re-sentenced for the original offence, or if subject to recall, will be recalled, or if subject to a suspended sentence, likely that it will be activated. The court's take a breach of any community punishment quite seriously.

Eddie you are correct, My ex Step-Son had a tag when he came out of prison (Ex because I divorced his Mum and then he was murdered) I saw the whole thing set up, quite fascinating! It is tuned to the tag at both the front door and the back door and furthest point of the house, if he stepped through either door the alarm would be activated, he couldn't even go into the garden, when he answered the door he had to be careful not to step through it.
Out of interest, I examined the tag in great detail to see if it could possibly be removed, I could find no way!, if you even moved the transmitter, the mercury switch inside triggered the alarm, we were told to not even dust it.
He did bang his ankle on the door frame once, we had a call within 5 minutes to see if he was still in the house as it triggered the alarm, 2 hours later we had someone at the house to check he was still in the house.

They come round and the person on tag has to walk round the whole house (and garden in our case) Trouble was the house was too big so if he went in to certain rooms they'd be alerted. They'd ring that phone thingy to check...the tag would then get turned off so he could go out...until they sent someone round to re-do it.
We had loads of spot checks as well....which was a complete pain because if he was asleep it was very hard to wake him....

It seems to me that they are a bit hit or miss (unless they've improved that is) as to weather they work or not. A chap I knew had one but the only times he got into trouble for being out when he shouldn't have been was when he called them to say he had a problem getting home, ie stuck in traffic on the M5.
