Mother in nursing home
My mother is in a nursing home 20 miles from where I live and it is fully NHS funded due to behaviour problems.
No nearer nursing home could take her as she has advanced dementia which is causing the problems.
I visit her most days and my petrol bill is coming to over £40 per week in relation to these visits and as my car mileage will exceed 13,000 per year just in relation to these visits so my car will need servicing probably every 8 months instead of 12 ( taking into account my own use) and as I normally change my car after 3 years I have never had to buy tyres for example before as I changed the car before it had done 24,000 miles.
I am anticipating if this situation continues for 3 years my car will have done 55,000 miles plus when I anticipate changing it. My insurance company charges a higher premium in view of the mileage.
I am the sole beneficiary of her will and the Power of Attorney allows me to claim reasonable expenses from her money.
I do not want to deny my mother her visits just to increase my inheritance but as I am a pensioner myself I can not afford to pay these high motoring expenses over a long period.
As her other expenses are minimal has anybody been in this situation and taken their expenses from their mothers / fathers money and been audited.
