My three half brothers are executors of my late step father's estate. As I had been brought up since age 3 by him & he was the only dad I ever knew, he made me a beneficiary in his will. Since his death in October 2010 my brothers have refused all contact. I have no idea if probate has been granted or where the funds are. I have e-mailed one brother (I have no home addresses or phone no's) & basically received an extremely rude MSG back telling me to mind my own business.
I do not have money for a solicitor, is there any way I can find out what is happening?

Noel. You should be able to find out if probate has been granted from the probate office where the death was registered. Try www.probaterecords.co.uk.
Let us know how you get on. If there was a will naming you let's hope it didn't mysteriously disappear as this sometimes happens.
How old were you when he dies and were you still financially dependent on him?
Possible explanations include: you were not named as a beneficiary, you were named but the estate hasn't been settled and distributed yet or you were named but the half brothers have kept your share.
