i understand the 28 day returns policy however i just wanted to run this by someone who may have any (helpful) advice?
i bought a pair of converse trainers from JD Sports in manchester on december 21st for my daughters christmas present. i gave her them on the christmas day then i flew back to spain where i am helping out with a relative who is ill, in the meantime my daughter wanted to take them back and change the colour same style size everything untouched - but i had the receipt and they wouldnt do it without - so as i was flying back this weekend i brought the receipt back with me and yesterday (the 28th Jan) we took them back and they refused to discuss it even - it was an out and out NO!!!!! tough/hard luck/not interested in your reasons/excuses........ A POLICY IS A POLICY and 'unfortunately' we cannot change the colour of the converse as its AFTER the 28 days..................so i begged pleaded etc... and it was still a resounding NO!!! i asked for the number for the Head Office to see if i could plead my case and the shop assistant thrust it into my hand and spouted '"wont make any difference"
I am asking here for advice - not things i SHOULD have done or anything else thanks - i just hoped someone might have had a similar experience and can offer a solution? thank you in advance

Consumer protection is a growth industry but it does not include a 28-day return condition for shop purchases, this would have to be given in addition to your statutory rights of the goods being:

Satisfactory quality, accurately described and fit for purpose.

If your Daughter wanted too just change the colour this was probably taken as just...

But hc you said, “she is aware of all of that” how do you know she does not say so, suggest you read it all again?
You said “she wants hints as to persuade the company to exchange the trainers outside of the the 28 day period” which is what I provided.
I think you are on very poor ground.
i have tried to help and the matter is now closed.
the matter is now closed because you say it is? Interesting!
get a gift receipt next time and never buy shoes for teenagers unless they are with you! x
I would ring there head office, i work in a store where our policy is 28 days for a full refund but we will exchange items after that at there current selling price and they have to be in a sellable condiction. most places are willing to help you but it sounds like the jd sport you went to dug there heels in.

thanks guys for all the polite replies.....big up to Tony Wiltshire... for responding in EXACTLY AND TOTALLY the way i asked!! thank you!

joko......i wasnt 'off' in my response to the others...just that i do NOT need to be be 'told off'............ i already stated that i KNEW i was in the wrong......just wanted a bit of support..................
anyway like i said before cheers guys and i shall be on it tomorrow x
Question Author
also............just as an after thought..tony wiltshire i was going to mark you as BEST ANSWER but i didnt have that facility strangely enough? anyway just wanted to let you know that
Oh you OP's make me chuckle
tony's reply, I agree, was good, but only good for you, no one else, because he said what you wanted to hear
The reason other relies weren't up to your standard was because they told you there was nothing you could do to make JD Sports change their mind
*sigh*
Thank you curlyperm11, you should be successful, good luck.

well........... i didnt say the other replies werent 'up to standard' who am i to judge? But you are right i did really want good suggestions to help me in my quest to persuade them to just let me change the colour (i honestly and truly didnt think there would be THAT much of an issue at the shop) Anyway anyway of course i thought Tonys answer was the best cos it was empathising with me,,,,,,surely we all like it when people are on our side - human nature i guess - but i DID say from the very start that i KNEW i was in the wrong what i objected to was being told it was my own fault and what makes me so different etc etc..... well the upshot of it is that i rang head office and nice as they were they said NO....... not as rude as the scuffy oik in the trafford centre shop i grant you - but NO nevertheless.........ah well not to worry it past on a sunday afternoon - cheers and thanks anyway : )
At last, a store who stands by it's employees and doesn't make exceptions to the rules and make them look like idiots

Thank you JD SPorts
I do not agree with you ojread2, I think to give the wrong advice (you must have the receipt) and then not to replace the trainers to a different colour is very foolish and has probably lost them one customer, maybe more.
Question Author
well Tony - they have lost my daughters custom and she maybe only small fry to them a customer is a customer at the end of the day? and it did seem a bit petty - however - i must have a point really becausre when i phoned the head office - he actually said to me " Look, people ring up every day complaining about our 28 day policy we speak to people like you all the time!".........SOOO my question was......doesnt that tell you something then?????
And OJ........ i could sense the 'smugness' of your reply........ you got shares in JD Sports?
No, CP11 no shares in JB sports and never will have, they are very silly.
