What is the law regarding cancelling a holiday?

My boyfriend has holiday booked for me and the kids on the 8th July, as I'll be heavily pregnant (I'm 5 months now) I've now decided that I would be too big, the holiday could be too stressful and I'm a little anxious as some things have happened and now we badly need the money which would be better used on bills and baby.
Can we cancel it for a refund? Do we have any rights?
Tia.

You'll have to read the small print.

Ummmmm so the r&r aren't generic and vary from company to company?
You'll no doubt lose your deposit. And depending on the terms and conditions, possibly some or all of the rest of the money.
You need to read the terms and conditions of booking it will laid out there.

Any refund is often tiered and the closer you are to the holiday the less you get.

Bambi why would we lose all the money when we're giving sufficient notice?
As Ecclescake says, the closer to the holiday date the more you will lose. It's up to the rules of the company, so check your contract. (I said possibly, just looking at the worst case scenario, but hopefully you can recover a good proportion of the money).
This is C&P from the Thomas Cook website to give you some idea...

If we receive notice of your cancellation more than 70 days before departure you will lose your deposit.
If we receive notice of your cancellation between 70 and 64 days before departure you will lose 30% of the cost of your holiday (or loss of deposit if greater).
If we receive notice of your cancellation between 63 and 50 days before departure you will lose 50% of the cost of your holiday.
If we receive notice of your cancellation between 49 and 29 days before departure you will lose 70% of the cost of your holiday.
If we receive notice of your cancellation between 28 and 11 days before departure you will lose 90% of the cost of your holiday.
If we receive notice of your cancellation 10 days or fewer before departure you will lose 100% of the cost of your holiday.
Have you taken out insurance? If so dependant on wording of policy, is it possible to get a note from GP suggesting that it would be unwise for you to take the holiday due to your pregnancy and stressful state. Have a look down that route.
