CRB check for house sitting

Was considering registering with some house sitting agencies as I do this for friends and relatives, they request crb check, seems you cannot do this yourself, would I need a business person or how would be the best way? TIA.

The agency should act as the "agent " for CRB check. When they say you need a CRB, maybe they really mean that you "will" need one and they'll carry that out before placing ou. Check with them.

Hi Maidup, They seem to think you can get your own check, gov website says no.

You most certainly cannot apply for your own CRB check. The employer has to do it with your permission.

However, more important than that is the issue of whether the agency is entitled to request a CRB check on you. This is not something I know for certain but I believe the activity is not one for which the CR Bureau would provide a check as it does not involve the care of or unsupervised contact with children or vulnerable adults. I'll have a look round and see what I can dig up.

Hi New Judge, That's a very good point, no children or adults involved, just looking after a property, think it's obviously just peace of mind that there is not a criminal looking after the property.

You can't get your own, you have to apply through a registered body (e.g. we do ours through work). It costs, too. The agency you apply through has to have a direct interest in you, so it would make sense that the house sitting agency can apply for you.

Just found out this:

"Basic criminal checks are available for all types of employment and voluntary positions (except for those covered by the Standard and Enhanced CRB). The Basic criminal check provides details of all unspent convictions, is not job-specific and is available for all UK residents."

i imagine it is a basic crb they are after - as you should not come into contact with children. they should pay for it....they are trying to fob the cost of that onto others, i would imagine x

there is a police check you can get for £10, called a subject access i think.

this may be sufficient as it shows ant police activity etc.
