Jury Service
Mr Puss has recieved a letter to attend service at a future date.
He doesnt want to do this for health reasons mainly.
He has palpations and is on medication, and also has problems with concentration as the doctor has noticed too.
You are qualified to attend if you are over 18 and under 70.(quoted).
Mr Puss was 70 last April.
is this enough to not attend to do this service. He hates the thought of it and hopes to be released from it. Any help please?

There is no upper age limit for serving on a jury for a criminal case, but you can be excused from jury service if you are 71 years of age or older and you do not want to serve on a jury.
Civil - between 18 and 65 years of age.

I agree with what has been said. In fact anyone over the age of 65 are allowed to claim refusal as of right, your occupation may also make you ineligible to serve on a jury. It is now quite unusual to have a jury in a civil case, prior to 1854 all cases in common law were heard by a judge sitting with a jury and the right to a jury in civil cases is now limited. Excusal is covered by S9 of the Juries act 1974, as amended.
