Discrimination At Work??

need some advice about a sensitive subject. Friend of mine (yes really!) had a stillbirth recently. She put a picture of her son on her desk. someone else complained to the manager and said it was upsetting, so she has been told she must remove it (other people have photos of their children on their desks). They have given her some claptrap reason about it being illegal to have a photo pf a dead relative on display.
I have advised her she should just comply with what the work wants, but she is wondering if there is anything she can do to compel them to let her display it.

This lady is obviously going through a very difficult time at the moment, I am sure she would have loved to have been able to take pictures while her baby was still alive, unfortunately, she was unable to do this and as such her only picture is after her baby had died. She obviously takes great comfort in this picture and is going through the grieving process as any other parent who loses a child has to do. Do not think because this baby was stillborn, it means less to her than a child who was older, a child is a child. I say shame on her colleague and her employers for their insensitivity. I speak from experience.

i don't think its 'weird' exactly, its clearly very meaningful for the mother - but obviously for other people it has different meaning and could be upsetting in all sorts of ways.

i think that this woman is being a bit selfish in seeking to find a way to put the pic up anyway, despite knowing it has upset people.

i realise why she is only viewing it from her own point of view but she needs to think of other people too - she is assuming people are just moaning because people think its 'icky' or some such puerile reason - when it may well be much deeper reasons.

for some its probably just not very nice when you're trying to work to have a dead baby in your eyeline all day long, but for others it could be like a knife in the heart every time they catch a glimpse, and bring awful heartache crashing down on them again, that they rather not have to have happen every day.
