No Win No Fee Solicitor Has Delayed My Case About A Car Accident

A year ago I had a 4x4 car running on the side of my car while I was driving on the main road. The 4x4 was coming from a small road and I clearly had priority.
My car was wrecked enough that it would cost me more to repair it than get a new one.
I found no win no fee solicitor from an advert and gave him all the details of the accident. He brought a mechanic and wrote a report and he also sent me to a doctor to write down a report about the whiplash that I had.
At the accident I got the name and telephone of the person that hit me and the number plate.
It has been a year now and my solicitor told me that he can't really find the address of the person that hit me so he can't claim any money. The car was registered with an insurance company.
Last time I called my solicitor to ask about my case he was rude and he told me that he was not going to discuss about the case with me and he hanged up on me.
I feel annoyed by that behavior and I want the money for my car.
Can I replace this solicitor with someone else? If I can replace him is this solicitor obligated to pass the doctor's report and mechanics to the new solicitor? or am I just stuck with this solicitor?

First of all you need to write a letter of complaint to the original solicitors firm. Ask them to invoke their inhouse complaints system and deal with it. Secondly, it matters not that you are not insured now, what matter is who you were insured with at the time. Contact them and ask them what they are doing with the claim - presumably you must have reported it to...

did you have an independent mechanic assess the damage?

are you sure he's has not 'seen you coming' and basically stolen your car?
do you have proof it was crushed?
did he take you papers etc? did you sign it over to him or anything?

this guy could be anyone - i could put an ad in the paper tomorrow claiming to be a solicitor...

Alright, my ex found the solicitor on an advert while we were both waiting at the hospital to get some papers that I had a whiplash. The solicitor came around my place and we signed a contract that I read and I was handing him the right to handle the case. The insurance was called by the solicitor and they called me back. The reason why I did not let the insurance deal with the case was because they were incovenient when someone crashed his car on the side of my car as I was entering a round about.
Where should I go and ask legal advice for this? CAB?
what? in a previous accident you failed to give way on a roundabout and someone hit you? how does that make your insurance company inconvenient? they will have had to pay out to the other party as it was your fault.

What? you end up in conclusions knowing nothing about what happened? how does this make you convenient in your answers? The case closed with the other guy at fault ...

Thank you for all your answers. Anyone that is a solicitor wanting to put some input I would appreciate it.
The solicitor (Barmaid) already added their input.
Don't know about solicitors, but you've had advice from at least one barrister( Barmaid). Will that do?
Fred, what's the difference between a solicitor and a barrister?
about £200 ph
oh and I am very convenient in my answers and punctual in my knowledge not to mention practically perfect in my indifference.
