Hi there I am majorly stressed I had a visit from the TV licence people and I have not had a TV licence for over a year. They showed me ID and they gave me a form. Apparently I am being reported to the procurator fiscal and I may face a fine and even when I buy the TV licence, they took me unawares and asked me when it was last on. I am going to get my mother to lend me the money to pay it tomorrow. Could I still face a fine and could I go to court? I am majorly stressed out.

My daughter had a £1000 fine a few years back...don`t think she actually had to go to court.
She now pays her licence monthly by Direct Debit ...as I do.That way ...no worries!
I've seen plenty in court, and they get reported in our local paper (but that's in England), which seems harsh.

if it should go to court, you probably won't have to attend. they'll send you an income and expenditure form to work out a fine (again, in England)
As long as you start paying now and they dont have to chase you further. They didnt prosecute me, I was weeks as opposed to a year but I think you have to to do your best not to pay to actually get taken to court.
may I suggest that, after you've paid for the one you owe, you set up a direct debit to pay for the next one?

if it goes to court, it might help your case.
Cant remember the last time I had a tv licence as by law I am not required to have one,the 2000 tv act is a statue and not a law, simply asked them what law are they referring to.In the meantime don't fill out any forms, return all their mail with the words -Do Not Wish To Contract With You and don't open your door to these people, just youtube-TV Goons and you will see lots of people using common/contract law to deal with this nuisance.
