Cakes containing files are frowned upon.

I'll have a look at the Prison Service website.
It seems it my vary according to the category of prison and prisoner https://www.gov.uk/staying-in-touch-with-someone-in-prison/banned-items

I cant seem to get a clear answer through google.
If think that is why you are advised to contact the particular prison as the restrictions will vary.
You might get an answe by phoning the prison.

Hmmm, ok . Thought there would be a specific list but clearly not. Thanks guys x
You can not send anything apart from a letter direct to the prisoner and even then they can be opened and read before the prisoner gets them.
To send a parcel you have to post it to the prison governor with a note saying who it is from and the name and number of the prisoner for whom it is intended.
The prison staff will open it and check the contents , if it is ok then the prisoner will be given it.
There are a lot of things you can not send money, mobile phones, anything that could be used as a weapon for a start . Food can be sent but it will be checked carefully.
What prison are you interested in sending stuff to ? All prisons have a website that gives guidelines as to how to post stuff to the inmates.

Norwich. But all I can seem to see is info on posting money.
Yes, what category prisoner are you talking about? A cat A is far more restricted in what they can have than a cat D in an open prison. Let me know the name of the prison and I can let you know the website and the information about what and how to send stuff.
Question Author
I dont know, but there is only one in Norwich.
Here is the information for Norwich jail
http://www.justice.gov.uk/contacts/prison-finder/norwich
The governors address is there.
Norwich has several wings and different categories of prisoner from B to D what they can have posted depends on their category.
The way to do this is to send it to the governor with details about who sent it,full name address and relationship to the inmate is needed and the name and prison number of the person it is intended for. The governor and staff will look at it and pass it on if it is authorised otherwise they should send it back.
Do not send cash , it can not be used in prison , if you want to send money again it has to be a postal order made out to the governor of the jail who will add it to the prisoners account.
I meant to add tobacco , drugs and alcohol are totally forbidden to all prisons .
banned items here , but this is only the obvious ones, as I say it is down to the prison , governor, and the inmate as to the full list.

There is not a lot you can send in. Note pads, envelopes, stamps, books all get through. Toiletries, pens, Toothbrushes, Anything that can be eaten, Anything that can be smoked are not allowed.
The best way to help a prisoner is to send a Postal Order so that they can buy all their luxuries themselves. Most prisons have libraries. In HMP Exeter prisoners can order books that they want to read.
Most prisons only allow stamps on self addressed envelopes so that the prisoner can reply to you.
I want to send my partner a parcel to the prison he is in but I'm not sure if I'm allowed? He wants a watch sent to him and some clothes will he be allowed this?
