Mic and I made a will about 8 years ago. We went to make a joint will but were advised to do it separately in case we died together in an accident. He left everything to me and I to him. In case we died together we named beneficiaries.

My Q is When one of us dies will the named people be informed that they were mentioned in the will.

The executor of the will has the duty of paying the bequests.

He won't necessarily inform the beneficiaries prior to payment though.

The will only becomes public when its maker has died and probate has been granted to his or her executors. The executors may, before probate, tell the beneficiaries that they are named

I don't think they will be told Jeza as they woul not be beneficiaries. Ony if you were to die together would they come into the equation. Besides, when one of you dies and the other inherits, that one might want to change the will in time, for one reason or another.

Jeza I am in the same position as you. No, when my husband died, the alternate beneficiaries were not informed.

Sorry - the q was when ONE of us dies, will the named beneficiaries ( = remaindermen) be informed ? no.

They arent inheriting....

Once probate has been given (and so Mic or yourself erm clean up) one of the unlucky unendowed non-beneficiaries can, like I can, apply for a copy of the will of the deceased one. They would have, of course, have to have .... suspicions or else they wouldnt be motiveated to appply for a copy of the will.
