Voting At An Egm
3 Answers
We have an EGM coming up and we have 2 positions to fill on our council (they are not specific positions just general) and 3 candidates. On the voting forms should we have two votes or just one and what is this form of voting called - I have been searching all night for an answer to this but most information I get just deals with more than one candidate for one position.
Thanks

The usual format (as adopted, for example, by parish councils with more than one seat to fill) would be to simply list all of the candidates (in this case three) and to require voters to mark an 'X' against a number of candidates not exceeding the number of vacant posts (in this case two).
So you should list all three names on the voting forms and tell those voting that they can mark either one or two crosses on the form. (The option to mark only one cross is important because someone might, for example, really want A to be elected but have no knowledge of either B's or C's qualities).

I agree with Buenchico, but would suggest that to avoid any complaints, that the order of the three candidates' names on the ballot papers be decided by drawing each candidate's name from a hat,and this draw is conducted with all the present committee members attending.
This obviates any complaints that a certain candidate's name appeared first on the list, thereby having an advantage (real or perceived !!),over the others.
