It is a way of getting you to buy one , if you don't already have one and if you already have one they want you to get it serviced so that they can charge you for parts that you probably will not need. These days, when you buy things from stores as you will probably know, they ask for your post code then eventually get your address from you, it is the same on the internet. Companies then sell on names and addresses. That is also why people get bothered by market research calls on the telephone so that companies can send you junk mail.
I also have had the Dyson phone call, a few months ago now, they try to make you take out a service agreement. I just told them I got rid of it years ago , (which I did) and they just said ok, had no problems since. Large Companies get funds by selling on names and addresses all the time. So annoying should be illegal to sell on names and addresses. Wife had a small knock in car park, we now get approx 4 calls per week asking if they can take up the claim, even though it was a few months ago hate to think how many times that has been sold on also would like to know who sold it on in the first place(probably the insurance company) thats why premiums are so high. (Moan over) have a nice Christmas.
