we rented out a property and the person died can we charge the next of kin for getting rid of the stuff and get the property back to a level which we can re let it or sell it but looks at it we new
door frames
kitchen units
and heating sorting out

if the late renter trashed it and the cost exceeds the deposit, , you might have a claim against the estate, if there is any.
You can't charge the next of kin- they aren't liable. You might be able to claim from the estate.
The stuff belongs to the estate of the deceased, they need to be notified and come and clear it out.

The building work you described is landlord's responsibility anyway, those items are part of the landlord's fixtures and fittings, not the tenant's.
Why would the next of kin be responsible? They may not need/want anything from the property anyway.
They aren't responsible but the effects the renter left form part of his estate and as such need to be dealt with by whoever is administering the estate.

Have these simply deteriorated over the course of the tenancy or can you prove deliberate damage to the above?
no, you cant chjarge anyone else for these costs

have these things been deliberately damaged by the tenant, or have they just packed up and become worn over time?

if so, why on earth would you expect someone else to pay for that?
you as landlords should have sorted these things anyway when te tenant was alive!
