Why Am I Considered For Redundancy When Job Still There?
My work is reducing 3 managers to two but although my shift is still there I am still included in the consultation period for possible redundancy.I have been told that 2 of us will either get the back shift or night shift role which I currently do.My question is if I'm kept on and don't get a redundancy package can my work move me to back shift as it represents a significant change in my hours.If I refuse would I then also be made redundant and be entitled to a package?

But they'll take the group of folk doing similar work and have them apply for the similar role positions that remain. Then the rest effectively have no job, so are redundant. You may personally consider that a position that remains is basically what you are doing, but a position has gone and the redundant one could be you.
As for what they can and can't force on you, that will depend. If they go too far then you could claim constructive dismissal, but as to the line that divides a reasonable condition to an unreasonable one, I'll leave that to the experts. However I don't think you can just refuse and claim entitlement to redundancy. If you refuse then you will have chosen to resign.

If you are kept on but the company change your hours you have a choice, accept it or resign. The company can change your hours any time they like and you have the same choice accept or resign. Obviously if you resign you get nothing but your pay to date as you were not made redundant.
If you want the 'package' why not volunteer to be made redundant and save the company time as as well as earning the gratitude of the 2 other managers?
