I had a parcel delivered on 7th August whilst we were on holiday. The delivery driver from Hermes couriers left it behind my wheelie bin and put a card through my letter box saying this was where he'd left it. We arrived home yesterday and the parcel is no longer there. You'd have to come right up to my porch to have seen the parcel and I think it's possible that the postman may have taken it although I'm not sure obviously. Do I have any comeback with the original courier company (Hermes) or has it gone forever?

Try phoning your local Hermes office. I think the deliverer has to get a signature (mine always comes back another day if I'm not in) unless delivery instructions on the parcel specifically state it is ok to leave it somewhere.
You need to contact the person who sent the parcel. The contract is between them and Hermes, not you.

If these were goods you bought you are entitled to a replacement or a refund. It is up to the seller to recover the monies from Hermes.

This is assuming you did not give instruction to leave parcels behind the wheelie bin if you are out.
Contact the seller. If its an Ebay purchase go through the resolution centre under 'I have not received item'. Hermes have no proof of delivery as no signature has been obtained, therefore they are liable but its up to the seller, not you, to try and get compensation. If the purchase is through Amazon or any other seller they should re emburse you or send you a replacement. I've had a couple of 'no show' parcels from Amazon and the sellers are very good about replacing or refunding. Another thought...have you checked with neighbours that someone hasn't taken it in because of inclement weather?

Hermes has two types of delivery, the more expensive one needs a signature on delivery, if it was the economy delivery you are stuck.
The seller is stuck, not the buyer. Or the person who sent it as a gift or whatever.
Left it behind the wheelie bin? Probably the bin men thought it was rubbish and took it away.
