Can Anybody Give Me Any Details Whatsoever Of Police Operation Nile
45 Answers
This operation was, as far as I know, running from January 2012 onwards. It was specifically designed to entice people behaving in a perfectly lawful manner into committing a sex offence purely to gain convictions. Not a sting but an entrapment.
Anything relating to this operation such as details of duration, legislative objectives, authorisations tasking etc. In fact ANYTHING including observations will be welcome.
Thank you.

but it IS some years ago - like ten.
The difficulty about googling 'Nile' is that a load of confounders come up.
Including the manchester mummy project ( well mummies come from the Nile dont they ) and the interesting West Nile virus

Thank you all for you your swift answers. I was aware of the GMP operation, and the details I am seeking do not relate to that.
Woofgang, Too *** right, I most certainly DO have an agenda!!. Watch this space. Correct about Law Forum & Yahoo. No joy from either.
Sorry old geezer, I just don't understand the 'noddy' bit, wanna explain?

It's a perfect likeness thanks.
I really can't think of any other way that the police could entice someone to commit a sex offence.
I have used several different search engines and have gone through several pages and can only find the GMP case and one other that involved the Spanish Police and the FBI.

Well the only scenario that i can think of that would entice someone into a sex offence who was behaving legally, would be an adult who pretended to be underage who was saying to the punter that they they actually were of a legal age in order to trap someone into having underage sex.
Confused? I might be.......
Confused? I might be.......
No woof like Noddie you have led too innocent a life
In Whalley range the girls were draping themselves over car bonnets at a junction ( you cant very well drive over them ) and the police jumped out of the bushes...
Mideighties - some important people were cautioned
and we youngsters innocently killed ourselves with mirth
and do you know ? I still drive past the Spire and think to myself " well thirty y ago, it was so so different !"

I am astonished by the number of responses my request has generated.
I appreciate that it it is difficult to figure out what actually happened without being in possession of even some of the facts, and I regret that owing to anticipated legal action, I cannot at this stage divulge any further information.
I can say that the whole situation is very complicated and I have written some 20,000 words in preparation for this legal action.
What I am really looking for is info. specifically relating to operation NILE (which is the correct name).
Thank you all but I have more than enough info. on the legal side of things but try as I might I can find virtually nothing on Op. NILE itself which appears to have been set up to entrap people on a semi industrial scale, and as far as I know ran for at least 6 months and probably longer.
In view of this I cannot understand why nobody appears to have any firm information on this operation.
I was hoping that a solicitor who has defended a client caught by this op. or perhaps one of the few honest coppers out there (there MUST be some) who would have heard of it.
All I can say is that when my legal action does eventually comes to fruition and hits the media, It will make Plebgate look like a vicars tea party.
Police posing as underage kids or hookers is fine by me, I have no real problem with this.
It is however, as far as I am concerned, completely wrong for plod to CREATE a crime purely to gain a conviction on what appears to be the fact that a particular selected individual MIGHT commit a crime at some point in the future.
If a crime has been committed, unprompted by plod, by all means nick the culprit. But if that individual is not in any way on the police radar for doing anything untoward.....leave them alone until they do actually offend!
In this country we do not entrap indict, prosecute and gaol an individual until that individual actually offends without direct police enticement. Unfortunately we do!
Anybody out there agree?. Can anybody come up with a reason to justify this sort of action by the police IRRESPECTIVE the offence created?.
And more to the point, ANY INFO ON OPERATION NILE...PLEEEZE.
Thank you for reading this. Stitchedup
