Here is Sandra, fanciable aint she - that is, to probably another orang utan. Would you ever have considered giving her basic human rights? No I wouldn't but because the poor old gal has been cooped up for most of her life her LAWYER has managed to pull it off by taking her case to court. How her LAWYER will be paid........we'd best not go there.

I agree that animals should not be caged or being made to perform in a circus, but surely there are animal rights to protect them. Basic human rights are for humans the ones who speak and act as a human being, use a loo and walk. Sandra would probably empty Superdrug of depilatory cream given the chance.
The only time I applaud the animal welfare groups is for the reintroduction of wildlife species that are becoming rare.

Which point has been missed Frognog? Maybe to some level of education I wouldn't know, but even then I doubt Sandra would have stood a 38 hour week dealing with people, answering the phone, running a home and a family, basically as a human being would. I can't swing in trees, sleep in a tree or find food, nor would I want to, and that is about all Sandra's natural life amounts to. As it is she has been treated cruelly and should be set free, but she is not used to freedom now, she won't recall doing urang utan things. This is where she should be given recognition from the groups that it serves, Animal welfare groups, not Human rights, because they never will be.

Gran she won't just be set free. She will go into a sanctuary where she will be integrated with others of her kind. At Monkey World she would be put on her own at first, next to other Orangs so she gets used to the smells and sounds, and then a friendly female would join her and teach her Orang etiquette, before she is gradually introduced to others. It's wonderful to see and in many cases the released creature will have an innate sense of what is required to survive, i.e. be subservient to the alpha male. I hope she ends up in such a place as MW.
DB, I fear you are right. A few people are now starting to sit up and take notice but it is probably too late. And some idiots are still killing them for sport or for their body parts. Climate change isn't helping the Polar Bears either. Heartbreaking.
