.....so what happened with William Roach, Michael Le Vell, Freddie Starr, Jimmy Tarbuck, Jim Davidson? DLT was virtually cleared of everything. Even Fred the Weatherman was found not guilty of a lot of charges. Another actor from Corrie (can't remember his name) was cleared before the case had hardly begun. The specially trained officers' arrogance seems to be
mis-placed at times to me.

The police and CPS can be certain they have enough evidence to convict the accused but with these cases where there is no physical evidence the verdict can be based on nothing more than which side is more convincing in court.
The jury decides.

I see no arrogance. The officers (overworked professionals doing their best) present the findings to the CPS who decide whether to proceed or not.

The Crown Prosecution Service was set up in 1986 to prosecute criminal cases investigated by the police in England and Wales. In undertaking this role, the CPS:

Advises the police on cases for possible prosecution
Reviews cases submitted by the police for prosecution
Where the decision is to prosecute, determines the charge in the more serious and complex cases
Prepares cases for court
Presents those cases at court

Of course it might just be that those you mention may not have committed any offence. Just a thought.

havent seen you post for a while

I supported a work colleague who was acquitted of one of these cases in eight minutes - three day trial

and so I gamely wrote to ALison Saunders DPP to tell her what a waste of money it all was.

and she was good enough to write and tell me that the system which you and I pay for was MEANT to 'work' like that and so she had absolutely no plans to change

Lucky us - lucky her lovely large pension at the end of it all

actually her reply was longer than that
blah blah blah
1) decision to prosecute is a two stage process
a) reasonable chance of proving the case beyond reasonable doubt
b) and in the public interest

then she gave the stats on historical cases - more than 50% remember if any charge is proven it is counted as a success

then more patting herself on the back

Oh and then she admitted the really cruddy cases which fail at the first fence - no one ever looks at them as says - oo dont lets do that again. So no lessons are learnt from acquittals

Actually her flunkey - history graduate I think - got his statistics in a knot. He obviously didnt understand how Kaplan Meyer curves worked,
told him to rewrite and if he gave it [ his wonderful statistical analysis ] to her mistress to use in public, I would make a public fool of both of them. no answer
