My boyfriend has recently been changed with the above offence. He has no prior offenses and has been remanded into custody. The reason for him being denied bail is because of the severity of which the assault was caused. There have been no major injuries but strangulation was a factor. Is there any likelihood that the charges can be dropped.

what does his solicitor say?
his solicitor will be in a much better position to know all the facts, not just what you choose to present here.
Is he mintaining his innocence?
www.cps.gov.uk › … › Legal Guidance › S to U › Sentencing manualType Your Answer Here...This charge can be quite serious. Which category has he been charged under and what were the circumstances. You will see if you read this link that there are many factors taken into consideration.
Totally agree with bednobs, how on earth is anyone expected to give any kind of advice from what has been posted. Very much reminds me of a similar link, scroll down. I would suspect there is more to this than what has been declared, which has been deemed sufficient to justify this charge.
The severity of the assault is not a reason to deny bail.

To be remanded in custody there must be grounds to believe that your boyfriend may either:

- abscond (i.e not turn up at court when required or

- commit further offences or

- interfere with justice (particularly witnesses).

From what I have been told he made comments to the police when he go arrested which they say could be used as a admittance of guilt. I have no idea advice given by his solicitor. I do now that a similar instance is recorded in the statement although the police were not called. My question remains the same. Can the charges be dropped.
and my answer remains the same
Question Author
What questions in particular would you like to know.
S18 is very serious and it is almost always a prison sentence.
Strangulation is a serious injury! He could easily have been on a murder or manslaughter charge.
I am puzzled as to why you say 'there have been no major injuries' .We need a lot more information. If an offender is remanded to custody it means the police consider that another offence may be committed if the offender is allowed to remain out of jail. So I can't see the charge being dropped.
Question Author
I'm not familiar with the judicial system in the UK. What I do know is the contents of the statement. Preliminary hearing was held and bail denied. And the charges is Section 18 GBH. He has been remanded in custody till October.
Question Author
I'm the victim. Can I drop the charges.
O God I was gonna ask if you were involved !

No, I think the chances of the charges being dropped are Nil
Being remanded in custody is a Big Deal

Question Author
So no chance then. Is it possible to be reduced to a lesser charge.
H Holland

very frequenly asked question - can I drop the charges ?

and you should trawl thro some of the answers
which is basically no
nether can you withdraw your statement if you have made on
and the Prosecution have the power to continue even if you make a second statement

Also if your boyfriend tried to strangle you and is remanded in custody you should think very carefully of trying to secure his liberty .... it may damage your health !

Why would you want the charges dropped?
Maybe he said he'll never do it again and he's very sorry?
Question Author
I know but muggins here is feeling guilty and sorry for him. I had read through different sites and most answers were no. I also would be questioned if I change my statement and could be prosecuted myself. Thank you for your advice.
Question Author
He probably is sorry but more that he got caught than anything else. As to never doing it again. I highly doubt that. Abusers never stop.
well muggins a silly silly girl
because she knows deep down he will do it again

anyway here is a thread on withdrawing stgatements

http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/Law/Criminal/Question1439938.html

and there are many in Law/criminal which is where I got the one above
If he has said that he is sorry you can expect that, but only sorry until the next time.
