Can any one help as to the average cost of setting up an LPA? Is it possible for us to do it ourselves? The details would be quite straight forward and we have already made our wills

You can diy using the gov.uk website. £110 each. Very easy and straightforwards, just follow the instructions.

GG I looked into this and it seemed to me that the best bet for a funeral plan was to do the kind where you specify what you want, the organisation gives you a price, you pay up front and that’s that. Make sure either that the plan is underwritten so you still get a funeral if the organisation goes out of business, or that you do it with a national firm....I’d also check the price you are paying with what the same funeral would cost now to ensure its good value.
DIY LPA is very easy granny. The thing to do is to download the forms and start to fill them in yourself. You can do them online and keep saving as far as you've got, then continue another day. If you have any problems you can ask people for advice and keep going back until you've completed them. At that point you print them out and send them off with some money. In other words, it doesn't cost you ANYTHING to try filling them in, so give it a go. If you really get bogged down (most unlikely) you can resort to a solicitor but do try yourself first.
