I work for a local authority and for as long as I can remember, I've worked through my unpaid dinner break and gone home half hour early. I now have a new manager who is insisting I take the break as"it is illegal to work for more then 6 hours without a break "
Can a company insist I take the break? I assume I'm not the only one out of the 8,000 employees that doesn't
i think the H7S rules, if i remember rightly are if you work 6 hours or over in a continuos shift you have to have a min 20 break and this needs to be in the middle, can't be at end or beginning
so you could argue both ways but the time you finish is set by your company and they are will within their rights to expect you to stay until that time.
You ob had a good arrangement with the old manager but they new one can change that, sorry
Working Time Regulation state that when you have worked for 6 hours you MUST have a 20 minute break (unpaid in most cases). This only applies to the first 6 hours.
