What Happens If You Can't Pay Parking Ticket

Friend did a good deed for me today parked in an legal spot in town unaware of restriction got fine for 30minutes over time 90£ due within 28 days or 45£ within 14days nice little sum for the government!! what happens if you don't pay!!

If it is a Local Authority ticket (and not a Parking Invoice) they will pursue him/her through the courts; a lot more expensive than the £45/90 currently due.

If it is an actual Fine and not a parking charge then if you don't pay the court enforce payment by using bailiffs or an attachment of earnings order. As a last resort you can be sent to jail.
It is the driver that is liable for the fine not you!

As it is a penalty charge not a fine they will almost certainly just send a few threatening letters and then forget about it or sell it on to a debt collector.

Islay it was in the town centre outside the bank proper parking space but we were unaware of time limit otherwise would never have parked there as there a lot of parking areas free of charge just a shock to receive such a hefty fine for 30mins over

Being unaware of the restriction won't get you out of having to pay. Pay it soon and get it over with.

Caribeing the parking is really dodgy since they tidied up the city centre I know its an expensive lesson you really are better getting your friend to pay it or at least phone them and explain that it is difficult and can they pay it in bits.

It could have been worse. Some parking violations in central London now attract a £130 penalty charge.

it's always possible to appeal if the restrictions are inadequately posted. But unless you've got a strong case, best to pay up before the sum doubles.

It’s no different to offering somebody a fixed penalty for speeding. Pay £100 and get three points or take it to court. Even if you plead guilty there the financial penalty will be far greater and the points possibly increased. Plead Not Guilty and get convicted and the extra is considerably greater.

It's simply a way of offering people a way to dispose of matters without going to court should they wish to do so.

£22.50 each might be more bearable.
