Am sure I know the answer but just checking. My 22 yr old son was driving today with his one yr old baby in back seat in a car seat. A woman jumped a red light on a crossroads and smashed into the rear door where baby was. Tyre exploded, whole wheel damaged plus various dents. She got out of her car, scrambled her number on a scrap of paper and then drove off and left them there stranded.
Son is so seething he wants to put her reg number on FB to track her down as she showed absolutely no care as to what she had done. I think its a very bad idea. Thoughts?

She only gave her name. No phone number or address or insurance details

Does he have the registration number? I can see this being a problem.
Odds on the owner will deny being there and say they know nothing about it.
Similar thing happened to me, a woman pulled out right in front of me and then did a U turn. I braked hard but the road was wet and I skidded into her. She admitted she had not seen me and knew nothing about it until she felt the crash. I hit her car side on right between the drivers and rear door. We exchanged details and she drove off but my car was too damaged to drive so I had to get it towed.
A week or so later I got a letter from her insurance claiming I had run into the back of her car and saying it was my fault. I knew where she lived as we had exchanged details. I went round to her house and the car was there clearly showing a repair to the side exactly as I said and not the rear as she claimed.I wrote back to her insurance told them the address where her car was and asked them to send an inspector to look at the car.
A few days later I got a cheque for £500 to cover the cost of my car, she had accepted 100% of the blame. Not bad as the car had only cost me £50 and I got £25 back by selling it for spare parts!

Is the site of the RTC covered by CCTV, that might help?

Yes he managed to write down the registration himself. He's (rightly or wrongly) put her name into FB and her photo came up as the same woman so at least the name is right

Arrods - you seem to have not read my 0031 properly - I made no mention of producing the insurance to the Police, I said that the only time when there is a requirement to produce insurance is when the accident has involved injury, and this has been the same since The Road Traffic Act 1060

Well he also needs to bear in mind that if he can find her, then she can also find him ... and so can her family, her husband, her dad, her brothers ... etc etc ...
i'm pretty sure that if some psycho hunted me down, basically stalking me and trying to make my life hell and cause me a lot of trouble, maybe lose my job etc - i'd make absolutely sure he regretted it ...
