Street Light Moved?
6 Answers
Has anyone ever had a street light moved / knows what it would cost?
We want to extend our driveway sideways to fit another car on as there is never anywhere to park but there is a streetlamp right outside the middle of our house!

"Birmingham City Council used to charge £720 to move a lamp column and I think £60 per square metre for the dropped kerb. That was about 4 years ago though"

Quote 2 (also from 2011 but relating to 2008):

Quote 3 (from 2008):
"Moving a lamp post will cost you between £1500 - £2500 ( I was enquiring with the highways dept myself last week about a driveway)"

Response to Quote 3, on the same 2008 thread:
"That doesn't surprise me at all. I know a lad who crashed his car into a lamp post in Sheffield about 15 years ago. He had to pay £1100 to the council for it to be replaced"
Based upon that lot, I'd guess that £1500 might be a reasonable 'ball park figure'. It's probably best to get the lamp post moved before extending the driveway though ;-)
