In 2013 we bought a composite front door from a local company which had been on display in their showroom. It has now started to split and crack. I've been in touch with them and they say that as it was a display item it would have been provided by the supplier to them free of charge with no guarantee, so there's nothing we can do. Anyone reckon we'd get a better result from the supplier, or any suggestions as to remedy?
Where they got it from and how much they paid for it is their concern. You bought it from them. The difficulty you may have is that now it is getting on for five years old they may argue that the item was likely to begin to disintegrate by now anyway.
Thanks peeps, that's really useful. New Judge - they company that fitted it have told me that what has happened, should not have happened, so we might be ok.
That's encouraging. The age of the goods might present a problem but don't be fobbed off with "it's a display model" etc. (so long as you were not given a discount or anything on that basis). If it was bought as a normal purchase I would expect a door to last considerably longer than five years.
