What happens if you refuse to give a dna swab sample?

I’ll guess the that they don’t overpower you and force things in your mouth.

I saw a case (don't think was UK) where a police officer followed a suspect and saw him spit onto the ground. He then took a sample of the spit for a DNA test.

The police have requested that everyone has a DNA test at birth and that they have access to the record.But so far the Judges have overruled it. They will try again, they are saying it is necessary to combat terrorism. So inevitably the day will come when everyone's DNA is registered and available the police without needing to get a sample. Also anyone who is arrested is asked or compelled to give a DNA sample , it is estimated that 30% of the UK population already have their DNA on the database due to this requirement .Theoretically if you are not charged after arrest the DNA record is supposed to be destroyed. But the Police have successfully argued against this and now records are just 'anonymised' .However an anonymised record can be reinstated if necessary for an investigation.

No they would not, ummm. If you refuse a roadside breath test you will be arrested. At the police station you will be asked to provide an evidential sample (of either breath, blood or urine) for analysis. If you refuse you will be charged with failing to provide a specimen. They cannot charge you with drink driving (or at least with driving with alcohol or drugs over the prescribed limit) as they have no evidence of your alcohol or drug level. They may be able to charge you with driving under the influence of drink or drugs as no evidence of level is required. That charges relies on the level of impairment rather than the level of alcohol/drug concentration.
